Reported by: Ericka English Wednesday, Nov 12, 2008 @11:19am CST November is National Adoption Month and several southeast Texas families are making room in their hearts and homes for children in need of love.
Kenneth and Edith Briggs have opened their hearts to nine children - including their own. "So many kids have parents and don't. It's an honor to accept kids into our house," Kenneth said. And now after 18 years of marriage they are welcoming yet another addition --two-year-old Lyric. They've had him since he was three days old. Edith adds, "He chases the girls around at least six time a day. But Saturday night smack down with the big boys, he's right there." According to the Briggs family, they are the only parents lyric has ever known, and on National Adoption Day in Jefferson County he'll become a permanent fixture in their home. "It's hurtful to see a child that's never had Christmas. I always try to decorate the house [for them,]" said Edith. The two have huge plans for Lyric's future. She adds, "I want him to go to college be a productive citizen." While Kenneth wouldn't mind Lyric becoming a Dallas Cowboy. Until then, they vow to shower him the love and affection they say only parents can give. Kenneth concludes, "I couldn't give him up." |
