Thousands of Texas children age out of foster care each year. Without a family to call their own, hundreds enter the real-world alone. But that's not the case for a local teen. Fox four news recently hosted a shower for Jessica Campbell.

Jessica's graduating from Little-Cypress Mauriceville High School this year. While she never found a family to call her own, she says her foster family is just as close.

"It felt like a real home, not really like foster," Jessica said Friday.

She's been in foster care for more than two years, and her foster family continues to play an essential role in her life.

"They gave me a car when I didn't have one and they're helping me look for one now."

Jessica's attending Lamar Institute of Technology in the fall, and plans to transfer to Lamar University soon after. One of her dreams is to become a nurse.

But before she starts her new life as a college student, there is one school supply we thought she couldn't live without. Several employees pitched in buy Jessica a Compaq computer.

"I feel so grateful for all the support and love that everybody's showing," she replied.

As she begins this new chapter, she has one piece of advice for other children, still in foster care.

She adds, "I know it's a hard time going through foster care. Whatever people are going through it's going to get better."
