  • Mike Nichols

Mike Nichols is the only meteorologist is in Southeast Texas with an active Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society.  He is one of only a few meteorologists in the United States with a Master's degree in Meteorology.  Mike now has over 22 years' experience forecasting weather; most of which has been along the Gulf coast with hurricanes and tropical storms.  Mike was the first forecaster on air in Southeast Texas to warn of Rita's path here in 2005.  When all the other forecasters were telling you it was headed well south, Mike warned you of an imminent strike here.

One of Mike's most memorable moments on TV was when one of his weathercasts was featured on Dick Clark's TV Bloopers and the old Fox Blooper shows.  A lightning strike electrified his "rear-flank" through the microphone cord just as he was explaining rear-flank developing thunderstorms on the air!  Talk about the butt of jokes!

In 2008, Mike won two awards from the local Press Club of Southeast Texas, including one for "Best Weathercast" and for an investigative report on global warming.

He has also been honored by the Red Cross for warning the people of South Georgia prior to  the deadly tornado outbreak of February 14, 2000.

Mike likes to spend time with his family when he is not busy teaching math and physics.  He especially enjoys the outdoors with his son.
