  • KBTV4 Exclusive: Ford Park Could Become Home of High Sc...
Reported by: Scott Price/Angel San Juan

    Tuesday, Feb 5, 2008 @09:34pm CST

Ford Park could become the future site of high school football games.

Sources tell us the Beaumont ISD is exploring the possibility of buying land at the entertainment complex for the construction of a stadium and new athletic complex.

Superintendent Dr. Carrol Thomas addressed the citizens advisory bond committee on the status of acquiring land for the project approved by voters in November.

Dr. Thomas said there are three pieces of property being considered but he would not publicly release locations. He says it could jeopardize negotiations.

But Jefferson County sources tell KBTV that there have been discussions about the county selling the parcel of land where the amphitheater currently sits to the district.

Sources within the Beaumont ISD have also confirmed those discussions.

Thomas says there's been speculation about the possibility for a long time but says he is unaware of any definite plans.

Another concern for the bond committee is land for a new Regina Howell Elementary.

Dr. Thomas says property for that has not been found yet either.

He says if none is located, a two-story building for 750 students would have to be built at the current site.
