Grand jury finds no criminal wrong in the officers actions of Lumberton Police Officers.

Grand jurors say all force that was used in the Kevin LaDay case was reasonable and necessary.

They said the use of force was within the guidelines of the Lumberton Police Department and the Hardin County Sheriff's Office.

In April, the officers arrested LaDay.

Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sullins said the Port Arthur man resisted arrest and fought with them.

    He says LaDay collapsed.

The 35-year-old was taken to the hospital where he died.

LaDay's family claimed he had been beaten.

But, an autopsy found he had large amounts of PCP in his system and that he had died from an accidental overdose.

The family is in the process of filing a lawsuit against the city of Lumberton.

Thursday's decision by the Hardin County grand jury clears the officers of any criminal wrong doing.

Fox 4 spoke to Chief Sullins immediately after the grand jurors' decision.

He said, "We're pleased with their decision. We had faith in our system. We move forward from here."

Chief Sullins says he's glad for the two officers and their families.

He says the two men did nothing wrong.

He says, "These two officers are two of the finest men you'll meet."
