Children too old for foster care now have another place to go for help. Since their grand opening in May 2008, the FYI Center has been signing up clients left and right, according to Executive Director, Greg Eubanks. He says the goal of the FYI Center is to create a safety net for children currently in foster care or alumni of the foster care system.

"When kids age of out the system sometimes they feel like they're in the world alone and here we want to be able to demonstrate to them, you're not alone, and we're going to be there to walk with you," Eubanks said.

The center is funded by a grant through the Texas Workforce Commission.

FYI stands for fostering youth independence, the center helps with housing, transportation, education, employment and mentoring for young people age 16 to 26. It also offers classes on credit counseling, cooking, adult living and life skills.

Eubanks adds, "it's a passion of mine for kids to have a support system when you leave-- ideally adoption."

But since adoption is not an option for some, the FYI Center is conveniently located just across from Lamar University in Beaumont and is here to help.

If you'd like to volunteer or teach a class for the FYI Center, give them a call at 409-833-1971 or visit www.fyicenterbeaumont.org.
